What To Expect
Grand Bassin

Ganga Talao (also known as Grand Bassin) is a crater lake situated in a secluded mountain area in the district of Savanne, deep in the heart of Mauritius. It is about 1800 feet above sea level. It is considered the most sacred Hindu place in Mauritius. There is a temple dedicated to Lord Shiva and other Gods including Lord Hanuman, Goddess Lakshmi, and others along the Grand Bassin. During Shivaratri, many pilgrims in Mauritius walk bare feet from their homes to the lake. Mangal Mahadev the giant Shiva Statue found in Grand Bassin is 33 m (108 ft)-tall standing with his trident at the entrance of Ganga Talao, is a faithful copy of the Shiva statue of Sursagar Lake in Vadodara, Gujarat, India. It was inaugurated in 2007 and the “Sthapan” was done during the Maha Shivratri period of 2008. It is also the highest known statue in Mauritius.

Additional info: The sacred lake is open to visitors and pilgrims every day. There is no entrance fee. A donation is always welcome.

Note: Kindly remember to remove your shoes before entering any of the temples.

Bois Cheri Tea Factory & Museum

Bois Cheri is a small village located in the south of Mauritius, hiding a 250-hectare tea factory and museum. You will be guided through the factory and the tea plantation, where you will discover the history of the Bois Cheri and the importance of tea productions in Mauritius. And you cannot travel through Bois Cheri without stopping to admire the panoramic views from the chalet.

Bois Cheri Tea Factory visit plan:
• Guided visit tour of the Tea Factory, Tea Museum and Tea Plantation
• Tea tasting at Le Chalet du Domaine de Bois Chéri

Duration of the visit: 2 hours + Tea Tasting

La Vallee des Couleurs Nature Park

La Vallee des Couleurs Nature Park offers a unique experience with the indigenous fauna and flora alongside various fun activities like zip lining, quad etc…suitable for all ages. Nature lovers are bound to love this place. You will have the opportunity to contemplate the 23 coloured earths originated from the eruption of Bassin Blanc and discover as well as four wonderful waterfalls where visitors can listen to rustling water and feel inner peace.

Duration of the visit: 1-2 hours

Gris-Gris Viewpoint

Gris Gris is located close to the southernmost part of the island and is well known for its sea cliffs. It offers a total contrast to the calm lagoons that almost circle the island. Coral reefs do not surround this part of the island, which allows large waves to crash directly on the cliffs, creating big splashes of water.

Just down the road from Gris Gris View Point is the Roche qui Pleure which is another gorgeous viewpoint looking further down the stunning coast line.

La Vanille Crocodile Nature Park

The park is home to various species of animals, reptiles and plants. The park is set in a beautiful rain forested valley with natural freshwater springs, full of prawns and fish. As part of your visit to the Crocodile & Giant Tortoises Park, the park’s guides will guide you through some unforgettable walks, and you will stroll through luxuriant greenery where banana trees, palm trees and giant bamboos provide shade for the crocodiles and the giant tortoises. During your stay in the crocodile park you can also experience a firsthand unique encounter with the giant tortoises and turtles, and get a rare chance to feed, pet and play with them.
Also thousands of Nile crocodiles are found in the park and you can watch them in maximum safety.
The Crocodile & Giant Tortoises Park also offers a mini zoo of Mauritian fauna where you can find most of the Mauritian mammals and reptiles including skinks, phelsumas (geckos), giant tortoises, turtles, bats, deer, mongooses, monkeys, wild boars, as well as domestic livestock such as goats, fat-tailed sheep and donkeys.
A must see is the park’s rare collection of butterflies and other brightly-colored insects (with about 23 000 species), which is one of the most fascinating in the world.

Duration of the visit: 2-3 hours
Opening hours: 09:30 – 17:00
